Review: 1/35 Achzarit (Meng SS-003)

The Israeli Defense Force is known for the many conversions they make on their vehicles. For the Achzarit they adapted the captured T-55’s into the Tiran’s which later on were used to build these Armored Personnel Carrier or APC. The Achzarit could carry 9 troops and 1 driver, it was armored with machineguns and a 60mm mortar and it had some more features like night vision, a smoke grenade launcher and the smoke generating system was kept from the original T-55. The T-55 was rebuild for a large part, a new and better engine was added and placed in another way, to make room for the troop corridor.

1/35 AAVP-7A1 RAM-RS : Finished

This build has been a great learning experience for me. I tried weathering techniques I never tried before like the streaking effect and applying wet pigments to simulate dust on a model. Displaying the AAVP7A1 in open position is a great challenge too, I needed to keep in mind everything will remain visible and find out a way to ‘open’ the model in a nice way.

1/35 RG-31 Nyala MRAP : Finished

This Kinetic kit was an easy and quick build. I think it is an excellent kit except the interior which is pretty basic and gross.
The lack of interior detail is the reason I spent no time on it and closed every hatch / door possible so you cannot see it.

Addon armor and chipping 1/35 D9R Bulldozer build log part #05

Frenchy, a member of Armorama showed me some pictures of a D9R with some improvised armor. The armor exists of bastion cages and seems to be made on the spot by the users of the D9R. Below is a small gallery with the pictures that show the addon armor: (All credit goes to the owner of these pictures)

Interior & Drive Train : 1/35 D9R Bulldozer build log part #02

The build of this great kit has continued with the interior and drive train assembly. Lets start off with the interior and my experiences.
The interior parts have great detail and very crisp casting. The following two pictures show the interior parts dryfitted:

Undercarriage and Ripper : 1/35 D9R Bulldozer build log part #01

I made a start with this great kit and started with the undercarriage and ripper assembly. The parts go together very well and the ripper is engineered very nicely! it is fully workable and will be detailed with hoses later on.

Here are some pics of the undercarriage + ripper:

Exterior painting : 1/35 GAZ-2330 Tiger build log part #02

In this update on the GAZ-2330 Tiger I will show you the paintjob on the exterior.

After finishing the interior, I glued the chassis with the interior on it to the upper hull. The GAZ was ready for the paintjob!

After masking some windows etc, I applied the color “Russian Green” by Vallejo:

NATO camo and engine installed : M1070 CPK build log part #06

The past time I have been busy handpainting the remaining two NATO colors on the M1070 Truck. I used the following colors:

Vallejo Black Grey 70.862 (NATO Black)
Vallejo Russian Green 71017 (NATO Green)
Vallejo Saddle Black 70940 (NATO Brown)
The green was applied by airbrush and the black and brown by brush. I choose to do this by brush to save myself a lot of struggle masking the fragile surfaces (lot of photo etched details). Even without the PE the masking of this truck would have been a hell, and airbrushing freehand would not get me the hard edge camouflage I want.

I installed Real Model’s engine as well! with all the extra hoses etc around it. I used Miloslav’s build as a reference for the hoses, the rest is just fantasy. Anyway, Im very satisfied with the result!

Here are some pictures of the chassis with the installed engine:

CPK blast panels and ladders : M1070 CPK build log part #05

In this update I’ll show you the blast panels that protect the side of the M1070 CPK cabin, the ladders and some more PE stuff. The Blast panels exist out of three plates with rods in between them . see the following pictures to understand the construction:

Crew Protection Kit and Engine : 1/35 M1070 HET Tractor : Build Log Part #04

In this update of my M1070 Truck Tractor build I will show you guys the in base colored chasis, the installed Crew Protection Kit (CPK) and the painted resin engine created by Real Model.

The chasis is painted in base color and is ready to be painted in the three color NATO camouflage pattern
Here are the pictures of the chasis with the rear deck:

1/35 M1070 HET || interior and CPK || Build Log Part #02

I made some progress with the interior of the cabin. ET Model’s interior set and Real Model’s interior set came to great use and add some nice detail to the cabin of the M1070 truck.

I made a start with the Crew Protection Kit (CPK) by ET Model and found it easy to be used. The CPK is nicely detailed but its a pitty you have to put all the bolts on the plates yourself.

1/35 M1000 Trailer : Build Log part #04 The woodland camo

Painting the woodland camo on the M1000 trailer was a real challenge for me because of all the gaps and such. At first I painted the M1000 trailer’s bottom in NATO black, switched it around and painted the trailer bed and gooseneck NATO green. After the trailer bed was painted in base color I found it the easiest to paint the rest by hand to avoid over spray and all the hassle of masking the trailer.
